CHERYL FOLKERS

Oils and Acrylic Artist

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Cheryl is an award-winning artist, who is mostly self- taught. She has studied under some of today’s finest portrait artists. Some of her training includes workshops with Louis Carr, Jeff Hein, Robin Damore, David Leffel, and Max Ginsburg. Cheryl has also attended workshops by The Portrait Society of America.

As a realist, her paintings capture the essence of the subject, using color, light, and attention to details to make subjects come alive. Some of her favorite historical artists include Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Georgia O'Keeffe, and John Waterhouse.  Each is unique, having inspired perfection in different areas as demonstrated in her works.

In addition to being a juried artist with fine art available for sale at RedDoor Gallery, Cheryl accepts commissions on a wide variety of subjects. She feels so fortunate to be able to pursue her passion of art as a career. She loves spending time getting to know her clients and discovering their uniqueness. Her goal in art is to create lasting works of beauty that not only portray a likeness but tell a story.

Cheryl is a member of Northwest Oil Painting Guild, Society of Washington Artists, Oregon Society of Art, Portrait Society of America and International Artist.

Please see below for protocols on Cheryl’s commissioned works of art.

COMMISSIONED WORKS OF ART PROTOCOLS & PROCESS

First Meeting: Becoming a commission client is not about filling out a form for Cheryl. She would love to get to know the client, and hear their story in order to create the type of artwork that clients will love to hang in their home for years to come! To start a commissioned work project, Cheryl will meet with the client to establish the vision for the painting and discuss style, size and mood.

Photo Session: Cheryl offers photoshoots of the subject(s) in their desired setting. This can take place in the client’s home, a public park, or a studio. She will allow 2-3 hours for the shoot, and time for an optional wardrobe change.

Photo Session Review: Usually 2-4 weeks after the photoshoot the client will receive a CD with a curated collection of the edited photos. Together, Cheryl and her client will discus various options and ultimately select the image to be used for the portrait.

Final Painting: The painting process can range from a few weeks to months depending on the size and complexity of the painting. After the painting is complete, Cheryl will meet with the client for a final review of the portrait and transfer ownership of the finished painting.

Pricing does not include travel costs to acquire reference materials if needed. Commissioner's references can be used, provided the commissioner owns copyright to the images. Some changes may be possible from reference photos; significant changes (that require additional reference material) may incur additional charges.
