RED DOOR GALLERY'S NEWEST

Emerging Artists

Throop.jpg
GEORGE THROOP

George’s painting style is a fusion of styles surrounding Impressionism. He chooses not to be confined to the limitations of any single artistic style, purely picking what he feels would transfer the ideas he has for an artwork in the maximum artistic manner.

George’s paintings have continued an evolution into his own mix of styles with architectural themes and landscapes. Many paintings are completed with a combination of artistic tools besides brushes, such as palette knives, miscellaneous types of hand rollers, multi-sized rubber spatulas, sponges, and chalk pastels.

As an illustrator (Studying at University of Oregon) George has spent countless hours helping Non- Profits with needs in designing items such as maps, brochures, and websites.

Within his local area, George has been honored to use his talent by donating paintings to the various auction needs of the community around him, such as the Clark County Food Bank, The Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation, Willamette Writers, PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and others.

Kimmier.jpg
KIMMIE BURMASTER

Kimmie worked in the dental profession for almost 45 years and has been retired for two years. Art has always been in her DNA. She also enjoys sewing garments for her family and friends and absolutely loves creating something from nothing! Kimmie also embraced a 35-year evolving project of restoring an 1886 historic church as her family home.

In addition to her new found love of oil painting, Kimmie has also been painting whimsical pieces in acrylic on both canvas and dimensional wood for more than thirty years. She taught “Tole Painting” classes for most of the 90’s and early 2000’s, selling much of her artwork at local bazaars, festivals and fairs.

She has been taking oil portrait classes since 2020

and has fallen in love with the oil painting medium

for its flexibility to create realism. To date, she has

painted portraits of all her grandchildren, her pets

and several commissioned pieces. She enjoys

painting numerous facial study pieces, still life

subjects and landscapes. Kimmie is serious about

her art. Her goal is to keep having fun and hopefully

achieve that sometimes illusive perfection.

WENDY DAVIS

Wendy Davis is a Pacific Northwest contemporary oil painter based in Vancouver, Washington. She has been an artist all her life, attending Western Washington University for fine art, and then The Art Institute of Seattle for Graphic Design and Fashion Illustration. She spent 35 years as a graphic designer, and transitioned to oil painting eight years ago.

Wendy is drawn to figurative work, as well as bold depictions of landscapes, painted both in studio and also plein air. She does not limit her subject matter, and paints animals and urban landscapes.

Wendy is drawn to loose landscapes and plein air opportunities, painting in direct method, using larger brushes for the majority of the painting. For Wendy, the design and planning of a piece is almost as fun as the actual painting. Wendy is known to cut, finish and prime her panel substrates, as well as manufacture hand-crafted wood float frames for consistent gallery presentations. She shows her work locally and also participates in area art festivals.

Wendy is a member of Society of Washington Artists, and Northwest Oil Painters’ Guild (NOPG). She also serves as webmaster for NOPG.
